A picture of a trans masculine person. He has green hair sticking out of a dark red beanie, and has earrings. He is wearing a black shirt with a yellow flannel, and is scrunching his face up a little at the camera.ALT

Hey there, my name is Sage, I’m white, 24, trans masc (he/they), and I’m an artist living in Portland, Oregon (Because Portland needed another trans masc guy with a dyed mullet and glasses to come and make weird art)

I am both physically and mentally disabled, however I refuse to list all of my diagnoses on a pinned post.

Relevant ones however are chronic pain, autism/adhd, like 5+ anxiety disorders, CPTSD and can’t forget good ol’ depression.

This was once a fandom blog back in the day, but that was long ago

I’ve been here since I was…15 or so, making this blog…oh jesus nearly 9 years old

(you might have known me under idreamofprospit or dont-be-a-van-hoe, if you did hello there old friends! glad to see you’re still here :-) )

These days this blog is basically whatever I feel like, from memes, to leftist politics, to fandom (though I’m really not into fandom fandom these days), to aesthetics. I am exmormon and I do blog a fair amount about the mormon church, cults, and religious trauma.

Like I said I’m an artist, I recently had my first ever group show, and I have like…85% of a BFA, though I’m currently taking time off to work, so I can get instate tuition. I mostly do mixed media work around my own experiences and of those around me, mainly queer topics and religious/other trauma. My favorite medias include mixed media painting/collage, printmaking, and recently video art and installation.I have an art instagram if you want to see more, it’s @ fungifamiliar. I’m not great at posting on there, but I’m making a real effort, just art block you know

Of note: I do not have the mental capacity to maintain a tagging system, I try but I often forget what I tag and what with. I really apologize for that. I do try, but if that is something you really need, I suggest not following me.

Yknow. If you’re like, a tow truck driver or something. And you get a call. “Oh no, there’s a strange camper van parked on my street for two days” like

If you get there and someone’s living out of that van. You can just. Not tow them. Like. Let them know what’s up so they can find a friendlier place to rest maybe but just. Idk. Tell your boss it was gone by the time you got there or something. Don’t do shit like that to people who are already struggling.

Maybe you’re not a tow truck driver. Maybe you’re someone with some other kind of power. You can just. Lie. Protect people. Say no. Pretend you didn’t see it. Move on. Let people live. Have some class solidarity, use your power for good. You have choice. You have agency. You have compassion. Don’t let being an employee strip you of that.

You need to learn about Palestine, Congo, Syria etc not only because it will make you a better leftist but because it will make you realize that our comfortable lifestyle was built by many deaths and displacements. It’s imperative to know the reality you’re living in.

having adhd and being a creator is like being on a timer. oh sorry you have this art idea? well you have approximately 12 hours to start it and 6 hours to finish the task or else you will lose interest and inevitably move on. oh you have an idea for a one-shot? well you’d better finish it in a day unless you want to banish it to your wips forever. ding dong bitch

ding dong bitch.

Reading a Terry Pratchett book is literally just:

Here’s a funny little joke
Here’s something that you can tell is a joke but don’t get and will only figure out five years later
Here’s a surprisingly cool fantasy concept
Here’s a unique and well written simile
Here’s a lil guy
Here’s something that has aged depressingly well into the modern day
Here’s something that has aged remarkably queer into the modern day
Here’s a character that you can barely understand what he’s saying
Here is the most terrifying and deeply disturbing concept you have ever heard, casually mentioned
Here is the dumbest fucking pun you’ve ever heard but in the best way
Here is a quote so profound that it makes you view morality and the world in a different way
Here is a plot twist that you can’t tell if it’s genius or stupid
Congratulations! You’ve finished the book! It has fundamentally changed you as a person and you will never be the same!

Unbelievably annoyed with the protesting advice I see from the most out of touch lefties on here. “You always need to show up in all black and you ALWAYS have to leave your phone at home.” 1 there are different kind of protests and you need to know what it will look like/what groups are organizing it and 2 you are going to get people fucking killed

If it is your first time going to a protest, and especially if you only found it through compiled lists you protests on here, then you NEED NEED NEED to look up the groups that are organizing the protest, look at what they’ve done in the past, and what they have said about this protest. Are they a college groups calling for a sidewalk demonstration ? Are a left wing party calling to take over the streets ? Is this an unorganized spontaneous protest not organized by any one group ?

If you are showing up to a protest organized by a college group in all black with no phone ready to raise hell, then not only will you be putting the organizers at risk with their college and the police, but you risk being targeted walking to or from the protest by fascists or the cops. Your black clothes will make you stand out in the protest and you absolutely will be targeted by the cops. And if you didn’t bring your phone then guess what, you have no way to call for help if you are targeted.

Likewise, if you show up to a spontaneous protest or one organized by more radical groups in brightly colored clothes with your phone out ready to record, you are also putting yourself at risk of being targeted by the cops and you are putting other people at risk of arrest by recording them.

These posts that go around every time there’s a wave of protests telling people who have never protested that they need to show up ready for a black bloc is wildly fucking irresponsible. If you are experienced and know what to expect from your local organizers, then absolutely show up ready to raise hell. But if you show up like that to a fucking civillian sidewalk demonstration because you couldn’t be bothered to see who was organizing it, the you’re not a revolutionary, you’re a cosplayer. People will be recording to post on social media because that was the point of that particular demonstration, and you are going to stick out like a sore thumb.

The first and foremost best advice I can give you if you’ve never been to a protest before is to GET TO KNOW YOUR LOCAL SCENE ! What groups are in your area, which ones are organizing this specific protest ? Do they have an online/social media presence ? Have they made any statements about what they want from the protest ? It takes literally 10 minutes of research in most cases.

Either way, the things you should always do at every protest no matter what is mask up, hide identifying tattoos, wear non descriptive clothes, and bring a bag with snacks and water if it’s going to be a long one. Don’t record people but if youre going to a normal demonstration but be prepared for other people to be recording with the intention of it being posted. If you’re going to raise hell and need to leave your phone at home, then you NEED to have a plan for avoiding being tracked by other means like car GPS, street cameras, and regular police surveillance. Otherwise you’re just putting yourself at risk.

Come with a group if you can, be extra extra vigilant if you’re going alone, and always have a plan for if you’re targeted by fascists, for if you’re arrested, or if someone you know is arrested. And most importantly, don’t listen internet anarchist grifters who give out of touch blanket advice to look cool online.
